Additional Winter Bus Services to Airport

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services is proposing a revised bus timetable covering the period of October 2010 to May 2011, which includes extra Sunday services and extra departure times on certain routes, in particular a new earlier departure of the bus to Jersey Airport, arriving in time to catch the earliest flights.

A new Monday to Saturday timetable for the airport bus, service 15, provides additional journeys and a more regular pattern of departures and includes a new early bus that arrives at the airport at 5.59am.

New Parking Measures Introduced

Two new initiatives aimed at easing traffic congestion and public safety around the arrivals terminal while at the same time improving customer service are being introduced at Jersey Airport.  

As part of a 3-month trial to gauge public demand, which started last week, an area alongside the access road to the departure terminal has been designated for use as a free drop off/pick up zone, with a maximum wait of 10 minutes. It is hoped that drivers will use this facility as an alternative to parking on the bus stop or stopping to pick up passengers on the exit roads, which are a cause of concern for road safety.

Furthermore, Jersey Airport hopes to ease congestion in front of the arrivals terminal by relocating the booked private hire cabs to the short stay car park, thereby, easing the transit for clients who currently have to walk across a busy exit road. This initiative will come into effect as from Friday 1 October 2010. 

Jersey Airport has been aware for some time of the need to improve access in this area, according to the Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Senator Paul Routier. He said, “For arriving passengers, especially those with luggage trolleys, the current layout is awkward, doesn’t create a good first impression and we have had a number of near-misses in recent times with passengers having to negotiate their way around oncoming traffic. By relocating this pre-booked area, passengers will now have just a short distance along a designated walkway to reach their pre-booked cab and therefore, eradicates any potential danger involved with the current location.  

The central parking zone will remain as a holding area for public taxis to park up before collecting passengers from the public taxi rank as well as marked bays for delivery and emergency services vehicles. Sign posts will be installed outside the arrivals terminal advising airport users of the new layout.

bmibaby - hand baggage rules

BMIBaby would remind all passengers that they are only permitted to take one item of hand baggage per passenger with a maximum weight of 10kg into the cabin.  Hand baggage cannot exceed 55cm x 40cm x 20cm in size and should fit comfortably into the bmibaby airport hand baggage gauge. 

   Passengers arriving at the departure gate with
   oversized hand baggage or extra items will be required
   to pay a manual handling fee of £30 per item to be
   carried in the aircraft hold or they will be offloaded and
   will not be offered a refund.  Please note that
   handbags, laptop cases etc count as a single item of
                                          hand baggage.

Duty Free purchases are exempt and maybe carried onboard in addition to the single item of hand baggage.

Top Level Departure at Jersey Airport

In a statement released on Tuesday 6 July 2010, the Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, announced that Jersey Airport’s Director, Julian Green will be stepping down from the role towards the end of this year.  
                                                                                                                      
    In his statement Senator Maclean thanked Mr
    Green for his leadership and management of
    Jersey Airport over the past four years and paid
    tribute to the significant improvement to airport
    operations and infrastructure he has overseen. 
 
   In announcing his departure to airport staff, Mr
   Green conceded that he departs with a degree
   of sadness as he leaves behind a team of
   managers and staff it has been his privilege to
   work with. Whilst he acknowledged that the
   successes achieved so far by the team at Jersey
   Airport have been nothing short of outstanding
   he acknowledges that there is more work to be done and that now is an appropriate time for him to move on and explore new professional opportunities.

Cocktails at Jersey Airport

Cocktails and fruit kebabs were handed out to arriving passengers at Jersey Airport on Friday 2nd July, courtesy of the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.    

   As part of their latest marketing campaign,
   arriving passengers into Jersey on the mid-
   morning flights were welcomed with a
   complimentary cocktail and fruit kebab. The aim
   of the promotion was to spread awareness of
   the hotel’s waterfront terrace and Sunday Lunch
   BBQ.

Sales & Marketing Director for Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Lydia Smith was pleased with the success of the promotion and said, “The event works both ways, spreading awareness of what the hotel has to offer and provides arriving passengers with a lively welcome to Jersey.”

Similar events like this launch, is something Jersey Airport would like to see in the future. Jersey Airport’s Marketing Manager, Alan Donald said, “This kind of hospitality provides a positive first impression of what Jersey has to offer”.
